Ripon Operatic Society was founded in 1940. Originally the Society only produced works by Gilbert & Sullivan, before moving on to a wider range of musical productions.

It has a membership of over 150 individuals, aged between 8 and 80s, and has a rich history of producing musical theatre in both Ripon and Harrogate, with Spring performances every year at Harrogate Theatre, Autumn fundraising concert in Ripon, and various other performances as required.

The society is made up of two thriving entities; the main society with a range of ages 16-80+, and the Ripon Youth Theatre, over 50 individuals aged from 8-18 (with an extensive waiting list).

RAOS is entirely run by volunteers and as such has no salaried staff, relying instead on the generosity of time and endeavor by its passionate members. Its governance includes a board of trustees that meeting bi-annually and an executive committee that meets every month tasked with managing the day-to-day running of the charity.
